About The Role:
The Controller is responsible for providing oversight and managing the accounting and financial reporting process at FNBC. This includes ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with federal regulations and audit requirements. They also plan budgets, execute financial analysis, and develop financial models as necessary. This full-time term position is based out of our Head Office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which is located on First Nations land. We are open to remote, hybrid or in-office work arrangements.

Here's What You Will Be Doing:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of an accounting, audit or other financial department

  • Prepare and coordinate the preparation of financial statements, summaries, reporting packages and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports

  • Provide operational guidance and maintain compliance with regulators and accounting standards

  • Review and approve reconciliations, including bank accounts, accounts payable, payroll and other general ledger accounts

  • Monitor and maintain the general ledger and accounting system

  • Coordinate the financial planning and budget process, and analyze and provide reasonable accurate estimates

  • Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions to senior managers and other department or regional managers

  • Gather and provide financial reporting data to senior management as necessary

  • Recruit, organize, train and manage staff

  • Oversee external and internal auditors and preparation and review of working papers

  • Notify and report to CFO concerning any trends that are critical to the organization's financial performance

Qualifications Required

What We Are Looking For:
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting

  • Completion of formal recognized professional accounting designation, such as CPA or equivalent

  • 5-10 years’ experience working in a related role

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems and controls, with direct financial reporting experience and financial statement preparation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present payroll and accounting concepts to other professionals

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when managing company records

  • Computer proficiency to work with digitalized financial records

  • Strong numeracy skills

  • Ability to establish and monitor financial reporting systems

  • Critical-thinking and analytical skills

  • Ability to prepare detailed reports and financial statements

Job Location

This full-time term position is based out of our Head Office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which is located on First Nations land.
